About the Event

Ryan Melton, the Democratic candidate running to represent Iowa’s 4th District in the U.S. House of Representatives, is the featured speaker for the next Plain Conversation on Thursday, Sept. 5. Melton will discuss his ideas for our state and country beginning at 7 p.m. in Rooms C and D of the Sioux Center Public Library, then take questions from the audience.

Unlike his Republican opponent, Randy Feenstra, Melton rejects all corporate political action committee (PAC) money. Melton entered the race in order to address the hollowing out of most of the 4th District’s communities, which has impacted numerous quality of life indicators. He is passionate about supporting children and families, making quality healthcare affordable for all, defending public education, and addressing the state’s water quality issues and cancer crisis. He also opposes eminent domain for carbon-capture pipelines, corporate influence in politics and government, and the ongoing attacks on our democratic processes and institutions.

Born in Omaha and raised in both Nebraska and Iowa, Melton graduated from Iowa State University and earned a master’s degree in history from the University of Kansas. He works for Nationwide, where he leads a team of insurance professionals, and is married and the father of two sons.

Plain Conversation is a regular series sponsored by the Sioux County Democrats to educate voters about issues facing the U.S. and world. It is free and open to the public.
